Where's the Water? It's IN the Beef. (And Cheese. And Bacon...)

We are intentionally breeding 70 million animals for food each year in California alone, where we have a population of 37 million people. Each of these animals, particularly massive pigs and cows, requires much more water than a person does.

In fact, the vast majority of water in CA goes not to people, not to households, but to these animals.

Knowing this, it is not difficult to imagine why we are experiencing water shortages. Even nonrenewable underground aquifers are being drained to feed these animals.

So why are we only being told to do things like take shorter showers - but not to transition to a plant-based diet, which would allow us to stop intentionally breeding millions (70 billion worldwide) of crop and water-guzzling food animals?
