Confession: I Fill My Bathtub 22 Times a Day Just to Hear Running Water, Despite the Drought

If someone confessed this to you, how would you react? Why do we think it's okay to waste this same amount of water for one sensory preference/choice, but not another?

Here is how we arrived at this figure.

In their Water Conservation Tips, National Geographic says, "On average, a vegan, a person who doesn't eat meat or dairy, indirectly consumes nearly 600 gallons of water per day lessthan a person who eats the average American diet."

Waterfootprint.org puts that number even higher. On this page where they are cited, it says, "Each day, a person who eats a vegan diet saves 1,100 gallons of water."

If you divide 1,100 and 600 by the average bathrub size, that's 12-22 bathtubs.
